What Amazonbot does

According to Amazon, Amazonbot is used to improve its products and services so it can give customers more accurate information, and the data it collects may be used to train Amazon's AI models.

What Amazon states:

Amazon runs two other agents: Amzn-SearchBot, for search experiences such as Alexa and not used for generative AI training, and Amzn-User, which fetches live information to answer Alexa queries and may not follow every robots.txt directive.

Amazonbot's IP addresses are published on an HTML page rather than in a JSON file using the prefixes format. Amazon lists amazonbot@amazon.com for questions and asks you to include the relevant domain names.

Block or allow Amazonbot

Amazonbot should stop crawling your pages and therefore stop using them to train Amazon's models. Alexa search relies on Amzn-SearchBot, and the noarchive tag can refuse training alone.

To block it, add this to your robots.txt:

User-agent: Amazonbot
Disallow: /

To allow it explicitly (copy any private rules you have):

User-agent: Amazonbot
Allow: /

A group naming Amazonbot replaces the User-agent: * group for it. Build a complete robots.txt with the generator and check it with the tester.

Verify a Amazonbot visit

Anyone can write “Amazonbot” in a User-Agent. Paste the IP address and User-Agent from your logs into the IP verifier to know whether the visit is genuine.
